On February 25, Wuhan Hanyang Hospital received a notice from Prevention and Control Command of Wuhan COVID-19 that 192 patients with COVID-19 in the hospital would be transferred to 8 designated hospitals, including Optical Valley Maternal and Children Heath Hospital, Huoshenshan (Fire God Mountain) Hospital, Leishenshan (Thunder God Mountain) Hospital, etc.. On February 27, Hanyang Hospital was switched to a "clean hospital".

"Under the‘high pressure’, all of our medical staff and logistics personnel have been exhausted and reached the limit, we should take a good rest!", said Jianhua Yu, secretary of the party committee of the hospital, took a long sigh of relief and said.

On February 3, Hanyang Hospital was identified as the designated hospital for the treatment of patients with COVID-19. On February 6, after three days of overnight reconstruction, all 7 isolation sections were completely renovated. Then 250 beds in 7 sections were quickly filled with patients. Due to the shortage of medical personnel, a total number of 622 medical workers entered the isolation sections including the hospital's department of medical, nursing, human resources and 156 medical teams to support Hubei province.

"According to the hospital duty arrangement, each shift should work for 8 hours. However, we hold on 12 to 16 hours because of heavy workload of diagnosis and treatment.", said Bin Xie, the deputy director of the hospital.

There is a group of desperate logistics personnel behind the desperate medical staff. On January 24 (New Year's Eve), the logistics services had been suspended. Liaoyuan Xu, the supply center of the hospital, finally contacted Longtai Medical Industrial Park in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, and learned that there was only a small number of Hand Sanitizer in stock. Thus, he decided to drive to Huzhou with a hospital certificate and 250,000 yuan in cash, successfully bringing back the 2016 bottles of Hand Sanitizer by the 32-hour round trip to 1500 kilometers. Finally, basic protection was used in each clinic on the New Year’s Day.

"Medical staff are desperately working for the patients on the front line. We have to work hard for the medical staff." Ying Zhao, the mother of two children, hadn't seen the children for more than 2 months and moved various materials with her male colleagues every day.

Under the "high pressure", the general outpatient department of Hanyang Hospital received ordinary patients in 24 hours. According to preliminary statistics, the hospital provided medical services for nearly 80,000 patients during the epidemic.

On February 24, a patient surnamed Jin, who had a swollen throat and blood in the sputum, not eating for 4 days, was unsuccessful in seeking treatment at 17 hospitals because of the fishbone throat. After examination by Changkai Guo, director of the Department of Otolaryngology in Hanyang Hospital, it was determined that a surgery was required. During the epidemic, there is a great risk of such an operation being infected by the patient's esophagus aerosol. Mr. Guo took the risk of removing a fishbone about 3 cm in length from the patient’s throat. During such an operation in Hanyang Hospital, there were more than 1,000 units and no case of infection by medical staff during the epidemic,

Hesheng Wang, deputy director of the National Health Commission and member of the Standing Committee of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee, pointed out during the investigation of Hanyang Hospital, "In this epidemic prevention, the general outpatient clinic of Hanyang Hospital, which is the designated hospital for COVID-19, undertakes dual tasks without stopping. All the medical workers are in spiritual baptism, in technology got temper! "

It is reported that the hospital was fully committed to the needs of patients with COVID-19, while it also tried to address the various needs of ordinary patients.

A patient surnamed Wang, who was hospitalized for a fracture, wanted to eat pork. Thus, the hospital logistics department specially fried a bowl of wood whiskers for him. He said happily, "Smelling the fragrant of pork, I feel that I am almost healed!" Of the critically ill patients, the body’s recovery was slow because of nutritional insecurity. The hospital sent a special person to drive 300 kilometers back and forth to buy fresh pork and vegetables, providing nearly 100 free "love nutrition meals" for the patient every day.

For other personnel, the hospital also did its best to solve their life problems. A girl in the northeast of China, received an operation at Tongji Hospital in October last year due to a car accident, and was transferred to Hanyang Hospital for rehabilitation treatment before the Spring Festival. Meanwhile, her parents came from the Northeast to take care of her. Thus, her whole family could not return to the hospital for more than 60 days due to the epidemic. Not only was it unable to pay for medical expenses, but basic life could not even be maintained. After understanding the situation, the hospital contacted the "Ronggong Foundation" and donated 5,000 yuan for living expenses and 10,000 yuan for medical expenses.

"After being determined as the designated hospital for COVID-19, we could completely suspend the general outpatient service. However, considering that many patients can't wait, we decided to provide the general outpatient clinic services. To be honest, it is a great challenge. During this period, we feel that we must use the strength of nine bulls and two tigers (tremendous effort) for the patient! " said Jianhua Yu.

It is understood that the hospital had also given rewards and subsidies to medical and logistics personnel. The hospital loan pre-issued 8,000 yuan per person for the front-line medical staff, 6,000 yuan for auxiliary departments, and 4,000 yuan for administrative logistics. In addition, it also contacted Aiyou Fund to grant a total of 200,000 yuan in subsidies for infected employees and the front-line medical staff. The medical staff got rice, fruits, vegetables, milk, masks, etc., so that they can help the patients without worries of their daily lives.
