China News Network, Hubei News, April 3 (Geng Xiang, Zhang Pan) "From the COVID-19 designated hospital to a “clean hospital”, Hanyang Hospital has been able to replace the closed suction tube every 3 days for three months." Hanyang Hospital Nerve Surgical Director Wanglin Hu introduced that during the treatment of patients, many patients require tracheotomy and intubation. To prevent the harm of aerosols, the closed suction tube must be replaced every three days. In the case of very limited medical supplies, this became harder and harder for hospitals to do so. However, as a private hospital, Hanyang Hospital did the job well.

On February 27, after the Hanyang Hospital was switched from the COVID-19 designated hospital to a "clean hospital", as the first batch referral hospitals, all the departments of the hospital have been operating at high load, and patients with cerebral hemorrhage and brain trauma have exploded. There are more than 60 cases of emergency surgery patients in one month, and the clinical needs are adequately supplied, achieved "on-demand".

Medical supplies and logistics provide the armor of medical staff. Behind the orderly and safe operation of Hanyang Hospital, the flexible and efficient management of private enterprises has played an important role.

Flexible and efficient, overcoming difficulties to raise medical supplies

On New Year's Eve, many hospitals in Wuhan were in a rush. After many inquiries, Liaoyuan Xu, an employee at the supply center of Hanyang Hospital, learned that there was still a small amount of inventory in Longtai Medical Industrial Park in Huzhou, Zhejiang, so he took 250,000 yuan in cash and a hospital certificate to go to Huzhou overnight. In order to save time, Xu Liaoyuan slept in the car and traveled 1500 kilometers back and forth in 32 hours. Finally, the hospital was able to use the 2016 bottle of hand sanitizer on New Year's Day.

Behind the rapid purchase with cash is the embodiment of company's flexible and efficient management. "At the beginning of the epidemic, the demand for medical surgical masks in hospitals increased from less than 100 to 400 to 500 per day. N95 masks, isolation protective clothing, and surgical masks faced a shortage." Fei Zhang, president of Herun Medical, the holding company of Hanyang Hospital, held an emergency meeting to immediately adjust the conventional procurement process of “planning declaration—project approval—price approval—execution procurement” to secure special funds, and mobilize all parties to find protective materials, and require all channels to reserve medicines, consumables, equipment, and other medical supplies for Hanyang Hospital and groceries such as rice, noodles, and vegetables.

Liaoyuan Xu introduced that he had taken the goods from the supplier when the warehouse was locked and unattended with their permission. Efficient and flexible management methods have enabled Hanyang Hospital to purchase the first batch of valuable medical supplies at critical times, providing the greatest protection for frontline medical staff to relieve their worries and go to the battlefield.

Make the best use of everything and leave the best to the frontline

"I go to the most dangerous place by myself, so that I can save materials to the greatest extent and reduce the risk of infection. If I am infected, you will go on again." In order to treat patients to the greatest extent possible, Hanyang Hospital established 7 wards of the Department of Respiratory Medicine in the shortest time, a large number of protective materials and medicines need to be sent to the high-risk area. Fei Xiao, the head of the consumables group of the supply center, requested to deliver to all the respiratory wards alone. His team worked for more than 14 hours a day in the warehouse to keep the supply chain running for 24 hours a day.

After the Hanyang Hospital was converted into a designated hospital, a large number of fever patients flowed in, and the urgently needed protective materials of the first-line departments quickly ran out again. After the hospital announced the acceptance of donations, governments at all levels and all sectors of society donated materials. The manager of the supply center Jun Li quickly arranged tasks to receive donations by asking each employee to oversee one tracking donation information. "N95 masks are only issued to medical personnel in high-risk areas, and administrative and logistics personnel can only use disposable medical masks to work." Jun Li says that the quality of protective materials donated by the society is diverse, and the supply center strictly checks the use standards of materials to ensure that only the best and safest materials are provided to front-line personnel.

"Medical staff are desperately working for the patients on the front line. We have to work hard for the medical staff." Ying Zhao, director of the logistics office, is the mother of two children. Because donated materials from other places often arrive late at night, unloading the goods until two or three in the morning is common. The logistics minister Huazhi Ren and she lived in the hospital office. She can only lay down for a short amount of time before receiving a phone call and starting to unload supplies. She moved various materials with her male colleagues every day. One bag of rice alone was 50 pounds.

Because of the lockdown of the city and panic due to the epidemic situation, at the beginning of February, the arrival rate of the cleaning crew in the hospital was less than 40%. Xixiang Yi, deputy general manager of Herun Medical, persuaded more than 10 fellows from his hometown to work in the hospital as staff. Everyone quickly getting familiar, from not understanding, complaining, to taking the initiative to work hard.

"I can't let more people lose their families anymore. I don’t want to be a deserter and stick to my post like a soldier." Mingyue Yang from the security department lost his wife after the city wen to lockdown, but he always stood by at the gate and sanitize the medical staff when their way out of the hospital. Other security personnel in the hospital were deeply touched by Mingyue's spirit, everyone put down their concerns and bravely took over the guiding of emergency personnel, physical examinations and fever clinics throughout the hospital.

It is reported that in the first quarter of this year, 518 patients with COVID-19 were admitted to Wuhan Hanyang Hospital, providing general outpatient emergency care and fever clinic services for more than 80,000 people. Fei Zhang said that during the epidemic, more than 900 medical staff at the Hanyang Hospital were fighting the epidemic, and at the same time, more than 140 logistics support personnel have stayed in their positions as well.
